On Saturday 4 June, Semyon Bychkov conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in the world première of Thomas Larcher’s Symphony No. 2 at the Musikverein. Following a repeat performance on 5 June, Bychkov will give Larcher’s new work its first outing in the UK with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms on 28 August. Maestro Bychkov’s final performance with the Vienna Philharmonic this season takes place on Tuesday 7 June where, as part of the Wiener Festwochen, they will present music by Bizet, Poulenc and Strauss with soloists Katia & Marielle Labèque.

Following the Vienna Philharmonic’s Summer Night Concert on 26 May which was attended by 102,000 spectators and broadcast to over 80 countries, a CD of the performance will be released on 10 June and a DVD on 1 July by Sony Classical.

The end of the month sees Bychkov present two concert performances of Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia on 23 and 27 June. Corinne Winters and Angela Brower – singing Fiordiligi and Dorabella – will later join Maestro Bychkov again in the autumn when they sing the same roles for him at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
