The loud echo of the Grail Bell announced that the Lord’s Supper could begin.  Here, Semyon Bychkov captured this interior world in the music. It was powerful, but he graciously elicited monumental sounds and revealed a vast, sacred Passion story from the score. Bychkov and his musicians posed the original question which even Goethe’s Faust failed to answer: ‘What holds the world together at its very core?’ It can be experienced in Wagner’s Parsifal, and it can never be formulated in words. This is the secret… There was frenzied applause for the sound wizard Semyon Bychkov, the Bayreuth Festival Choir, the terrific musicians of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra and the excellent ensemble of singers.
