LONDON – BBC SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA – OCTOBER 2016
Beloved Friend: Tchaikovsky Project

“Semyon Bychkov, the BBC SO’s Günter Wand Conducting Chair, leads Beloved Friend: Tchaikovsky Project, three concerts that place some of Tchaikovsky’s most-loved works – Symphony No. 6, Manfred Symphony, Francesca da Rimini and the Second Piano Concerto – alongside works by compatriots Rachmaninov and Taneyev (19, 24 & 28 October).   In addition to the concerts, the project features a rare performance of Oscar-winning playwright Sir Ronald Harwood’s Beloved Friend,  a staged performance of music and readings based on the letters exchanged between Tchaikovsky and his patron and muse,  Nadezhda von Meck, whom he never met (16 October).”

In addition to concerts at David Geffen Hall, the festival will include a chamber music program co-presented with 92nd Street Y and a vocal concert co-presented by the Kaufman Music Center and New York Festival of Song…  The festival’s title takes its name from the sobriquet Tchaikovsky used when addressing his patron, Baroness Nadezhda von Meck, in their correspondence.”
